Why seven? To the Romans, the land where frankincense grew was Arabia Felix: Arabia the Fortunate. Rome, the city of seven hills, couldn't get enough of it. We've borrowed a little of that luck.

Draws are made by RANDOM.ORG every Monday. Orders placed by 23:59 on 6 January 2027 are entered. Full terms

Satya Incense Scents Explained: All 21 Fragrances in Our Sets

Satya makes more than eighty fragrances, and the names — Reiki, Karma, Money Matrix — tell you nothing about what is in the box. This is a working guide to the twenty-one fragrances in the three Satya sets we stock, grouped by what they actually smell like, so you can pick a set that leans your way rather than guessing from a colour.

The two classics

Nag Champa — sandalwood, champa flower and a sweet resinous middle. The original and the reference; described in full here. In all three sets.

Super Hit — Satya's second signature blend, created by the founder's son. Softer and sweeter than Nag Champa, with a floral, faintly powdery finish and less resin. If Nag Champa is the evening one, Super Hit is the afternoon one. In all three sets.

Woody and resinous

Sandalwood — the base note of most Indian incense on its own: smooth, milky, warm, slightly sweet. The safest single fragrance for someone new to incense. Floral set.

Oodh — deep, smoky and woody, built around the agarwood note used in Middle Eastern perfumery. The heaviest scent in the range; a little goes a long way. 12-fragrance set.

Frankincense — the church resin: dry, citrus-edged, ancient-smelling. Cleaner than you expect. Series 1.

Myrrh — frankincense's darker sibling, warmer, balsamic, slightly bitter. Series 1.

Dragon's Blood — a sweet, amber-like red resin with a hint of spice; the most "perfumed" of the resins. Series 1 and Floral set.

Meditation — quiet, low and woody, made for sitting still; sandalwood-led with very little sweetness. 12-fragrance set.

Floral

Champa — the champa flower without the sandalwood base: honeyed, tropical, soft. What Nag Champa would be without the weight. 12-fragrance set.

Jasmine — heady white floral, sweet and rich; strong enough that half a stick does a room. Series 1.

Lavender — clean and herbal, the most familiar scent in any of the boxes, and a good one for bedrooms. Series 1 and Floral set.

Positive Vibes — bright and uplifting, a lighter floral-citrus blend; the closest Satya gets to a morning scent. 12-fragrance set and Floral set.

Earthy and herbal

Patchouli — earthy, dark and slightly sweet; the scent of 1970s record sleeves, and still one of the best-loved. Floral set.

Tulsi — holy basil: green, peppery, fresh, and unlike anything else in the range. Series 1.

Traditional Ayurveda — herbal and earthy, in the style of the old ayurvedic blends; think dried herbs and warm wood. 12-fragrance set.

Reiki — calm and clean, with herbal and sandalwood notes; a lighter cousin of Meditation. 12-fragrance set.

Warm and spiced

Karma — warm spice over a sweet base; cinnamon and clove territory without being a Christmas candle. 12-fragrance set and Series 1.

Opium — dark, spicy-sweet and heady, an evening scent in the oriental-perfume style. 12-fragrance set.

Namaste — gentle, warm and balsamic; an easy everyday scent that sits between the woods and the spices. 12-fragrance set and Series 1.

Spiritual Healing — rounded and comforting, sandalwood-led with a little sweetness; the one most people reach for second after Nag Champa. 12-fragrance set and Series 1.

Money Matrix — a bright, spicy-sweet blend from Satya's newer range, lighter than Karma. Series 1.

Which set?

  • The 12-fragrance set if you want the classic Satya spread: the two signatures plus Oodh, Champa, Opium, Reiki, Meditation and the everyday warm ones. £10.95.
  • Series 1 if resins and florals are your thing — frankincense, myrrh, dragon's blood, jasmine, tulsi — with the two classics as anchors. £10.95.
  • The Floral gift set for the softer seven: sandalwood, patchouli, lavender, dragon's blood, the classics and Positive Vibes. £6.95.

Two sets ship free next day. Every box is genuine Bengaluru-made Satya from an authorised supplier — the Satya page has the story and how to spot the real thing.

And if you want something cleaner

Satya is temple incense: rich, resinous, made for ritual. If you find it heavy for a modern living room, Fumino's own hand-crafted sticks are made in the same city with lighter, more contemporary blends — and any Satya order gets a Fumino pack for £2.99 in the basket.
