Satya Incense

Genuine Satya incense, from an authorised supplier. Sets of twelve and seven fragrances now; single packs and standard boxes to follow.
The Satya story
In 1964 K.N. Satyam Setty started making incense sticks from a small unit in India, with the blessing of Sri Satya Sai Baba, and named it Shrinivas Sugandhalaya — "Shrinivas house of fragrance". He was working in the masala tradition, where the aromatic ingredients are blended into a paste and hand-rolled onto a bamboo stick, rather than a plain stick dipped in perfume, and he was soon being called the king of masala incense. The blend he is remembered for, Nag Champa, is the sweet, resinous mix of sandalwood and champa flower that most people in Britain picture when they think of incense at all. It went round the world in the blue box with the Sai Baba portrait, and more than sixty years later it is still made the same way and still in demand everywhere incense is burned.
Satya is a family business three generations deep. The founder's son, K.S. Balakrishna Setty — who created Super Hit, the second-best-known Satya blend — now leads Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) LLP, established in 2014 with its manufacturing, blending and research facilities in Bengaluru, and his son Rohan Setty is being brought up in the business to carry it on. A separate Mumbai company of the same family name makes its own Satya range; ours is the Bengaluru house. Its packs carry two marks that are worth knowing: the oval Satya logo and the small green Earth logo. If a pack has both, it came from the Bengaluru factory.
Why buy Satya from Fumino
Inbound To Anglia Ltd, the company behind Fumino, is an authorised supplier of genuine Satya. We hold a letter of authorisation from Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) LLP confirming that we supply their products, sourced through their authorised distributor. Every box we sell is factory-sealed, and every pack carries the Satya and Earth logos. There is a lot of imitation Nag Champa about; this isn't it.
We are also the company that makes Fumino, so we know incense — and if you run a shop, our trade page covers both brands.

They aren't rivals. Satya is the incense of ritual and memory; Fumino is the incense of the room you live in. Many people keep both — and if the Sandalwood or Oodh in a Satya set is the one you keep reaching for, Fumino's hand-crafted sticks are the next step in the same direction.
How to burn masala incense well
Satya sticks are thicker and more heavily scented than most, so a little goes a long way. Light the tip, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out and let the ember do the work. Use a holder that catches the ash, keep it away from draughts, and open a window afterwards rather than during — the fragrance is meant to settle into fabrics and hang in the air. One stick will scent an average room for a few hours after it has finished burning.
